Loras 61, BVU 42

The last time the women's basketball team faced off against the Buena Vista University Beavers it was just the first victory on the path to what would become a six-game winning streak after the Duhawks finished business Wednesday night, 61-42, against the same Beavers (9-11 overall, 4-7) at the AWC.

Loras, who now owns a 14-7 overall record and sits at 9-3 in the Iowa Conference, was just another team in the mix of the IIAC race when they sat at 3-3 in the league two and a half weeks ago. Today they sit tied at the top of the conference with Coe College and just one victory shy of the top overall mark.

The first half of the game would prove to be the closest of the two as the Duhawks and Beavers traded baskets throughout the first 20 minutes. The two teams had identical totals four times before Loras took a one-point lead into halftime, 27-26.

Loras would come out in the second half with the lead and hold onto it until the very end as a drastically different Beavers team came out cold in the second half, finishing the half shooting 4-of-28 from the field, while the Duhawks shot 50% in the second half.

Coming off of a monster week where she earned female athlete of the week in the Iowa Conference, junior Melissa Herrmann continued her hot streak with 16 points, three rebounds, and one block, making it the fourth straight game the Duhawks have kept their opponent point totals in the 40's.

Senior Lindsey LaBadie, who is second on the team with 10.1 points per game, led the team with 17 points against the Beavers and added two assists to her conference leading 78.

The Duhawks regular season includes four more games, starting with rival University of Dubuque on Saturday. The Spartans have a 6-6 record in the Iowa Conference and are 11-10 overall. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.

The Duhawks will honor their lone senior on the team, Lindsey LaBadie, as senior day festivities set the stage for the game. Loras will also welcome back their alumni on Saturday as part of the celebration.
