Duhawks are Waltz-ing into IIAC Tournament

The Loras College women's soccer team climbed the Iowa Conference standings on the league's final day of competition on Saturday with a thrilling 1-0 double overtime win over the Simpson College Storm.

After 109 minutes of scoreless soccer, Jessica Kern's pass to Lisa Waltz setup a game-winning goal that pushed Loras to the #3 seed in the upcoming Iowa Conference tournament. Waltz has emerged in the last three games as Loras' top goal scoring threat as a couple of Loras' leading scorers recover from late season bumps and bruises.

Waltz had one goal and two assists before the contest with Dubuque on October 21. She tied that contest with a late goal, but the Spartans prevailed. On October 28, she scored the game's opening goal and assisted the game-winner in overtime against Clarke College. On Saturday, she continued her dramatic efforts around the opponents' goal with a shot just inside the six yard box out of the reach of Storm goalkeeper Megan Petersen mere seconds before the teams played to a draw.

Loras will play a midweek game in the Rock Bowl against Coe College. With a win against the Kohawks, they would play Friday in the IIAC semifinals in the Rock Bowl. The Loras men won their side of the league, meaning the Duhawks will host the four semifinal and two final matches on November 6-7 in Dubuque.
