Simpson 82, Loras 70

Four Duhawks in double figures wasn't enough for the Duhawks to get past the Simpson College Storm in the AWC on Wednesday night. The visitors scored 51 second half points, including 18-of-20 free throws to beat the Duhawks 82-70.

Tim Kelly scored a team high 13 points to lead the offense, but was followed closely by Aaron Schueller's 12 points off the bench and 11 apiece for Ryan Coon and Brian Gaughan.

The Duhawks held a slim 35-31 lead heading into the locker room after knocking down five 3-pointers and shooting 48% from the field. Jordan Harrelson scored all eight of his points in the first half and finished with a team high 11 rebounds. Schueller had the team lead at the break with nine points, including four free throws and a 3-pointer.

The Duhawks came out in the second half and scored 35 more points and made 13 field goals, but sent the revitalized Storm to the free throw line 20 times in the second half (some in the closing minutes as the Duhawks tried to claw their way back). The visitors converted 18 of their free throws and leading scorer Zack Barragan came alive for 16 of his game high 24 points in the second half.

The Storm got just five points from their bench, but capitalized on the Duhawks' 18 turnovers to the tune of 26 points. The teams finished even in rebounds (38 each) and points in the paint (24).

At the halfway point of the Iowa Conference schedule, Loras sits at 1-7.

The final game in the four-games-in-seven-days stretch ends on Saturday when the Duhawks host Coe College (11-6, 5-3) at 4:00 PM.
