Duhawks move to 4-3 in IIAC with road win over Buena Vista

The Loras College women's basketball team made 12-of-21 shots in the final 20 minutes in Storm Lake, Iowa on Monday night to knock off the Buena Vista Beavers by nine points. Loras attempted a season high 38 free throws, making 28, and were aggressive throughout the 40 minutes on their way to the win.


Kelly Rogowski was 9-for-9 from the free throw line, 4-of-5 from the field, and 2-of-2 from 3-point range on her way to a game high 19 points. Katie Langmeier joined her in double figures with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.


Buena Vista was in the driver's seat early with a double digit lead after 12 minutes as the Duhawks found their legs after the five hour trip to the Buena Vista campus. Loras closed the gap over the last eight minutes, ending the first half on a 14-6 run. The home team took a 27-25 lead into the locker room.


Six minutes into the second half, the Beavers had knocked down three 3-pointers and opened a 42-29 lead.


Loras used a 16-2 run in the middle of the second half to make it 45-45 with eight minutes to go.


All told, the teams battled to five ties and seven lead changes in the second half.


With just under four minutes to go, Loras took the lead for the final time and took to the free throw line to close out the win.


Loras' win put them at 9-7 overall and 4-3 in the Iowa Conference. Buena Vista fell to 8-8 and 3-4 in the IIAC with the loss.


Loras' busy week continues with a pair of home games to finish this week. Simpson College is in the AWC on Wednesday at 6:00 PM and Coe will be in on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
