BVU 67, Loras 55

A solid start to Loras College's road game with the Buena Vista Beavers gave way to a 34-19 second half in favor of the home team as the Duhawks fell to 1-6 in the Iowa Conference Monday night. Tim Kelly and Dan Pawelski led the offense with 17 and 15 points.

Loras built a 36-33 halftime lead on the heels of Kelly's first half burst of 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. The Duhawks went 16-of-32 from the field as a team in the opening 20 minutes, allowed just two offensive rebounds to the Beavers, and logged four steals.

Dan Pawelski answered with nine second half points, knocking down five free throws and two field goals. The Duhawks' second half was slower on the offensive end, making just 5-of-25 shots. Loras turned the ball over 10 times while Buena Vista protected it with just four turnovers in the final 20 minutes.

Buena Vista did enough from the free throw line to keep the Duhawks from taking a lead beyond the 15 minute mark, converting 19-of-26 shots from the charity stripe – some of which came while the Duhawks tried to find a way back over the final two minutes.

Doug Bissen led all scorers with 21 points.

Loras fell to 4-12, 1-7 in the IIAC with the loss. They'll host Simpson College this Wednesday night at 8:00 PM and Coe on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
