Loras 56, Central 45

The Loras College women's basketball team moved back above the .500 mark in IIAC competition with a 56-45 win over the Central College Dutch. Loras held a 26-15 halftime lead after allowing only four field goals (one two pointer and three 3-pointers) and four free throws.

Loras' offense scored just six points in the first eight minutes and Central's offense went cold and scored just two points over the final 13 minutes of the first half, making two late free throws.

Meanwhile, Brit Kent was off to a 4-for-5 start in the first half on her way to her game high 13 points. Katie Wheeler, Rachel Kerchefske, and Melissa Herrmann each scored four points off the bench in the first half and Herrmann added three blocks in 13 minutes.

Katie Langmeier scored all 10 of her points in the second half as the Duhawks built a lead no greater than 10 until Kelly Rogowski's final free throws of the game.

Central had the lead down to two points at 44-42 with just over five minutes to play, but a quick 7-0 run by the Duhawks extended the lead and helped the Duhawks to the finish line as they again put the clamps down defensively to end a half. The Dutch's final five points over the last 5:30 of the game all came from the free throw line as they turned to the long distance shot and committed five turnovers.

Loras scored 36 points in the paint to the Dutch's eight. Loras shot 44% from the field for the game and attempted just six 3-pointers.

The Wartburg College Knights (11-3, 4-1) will be in the AWC at 2:00 PM on Saturday for a key midseason matchup in the IIAC standings.
