Loras 64, Dubuque 50

The Loras College women's basketball team moved to 2-1 in the Iowa Conference with a 14-point win over the Dubuque Spartans on Wednesday night. They are now 7-5 overall and winners of their last three games.

For the second time this season Katie Langmeier led the Duhawks in scoring and for the sixth time she led the way on the glass, earning her first double-double of the season by scoring 14 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in 2012's first game. Kelly Rogowski finished with 11 points and Lindsey LaBadie had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The largest lead of the first half for Loras was 25-17 with 3:41 until halftime, but the Spartans chipped away on their home floor, making it 27-25 at the intermission. Langmeier was well on her way to her double-double at the midway point with nine points and eight rebounds in the first half. Rogowski also scored nine of her points in the first half.

The second half included a quick start by the Duhawks, who opened the final 20 minutes on a 10-3 run.

Things continued to be a struggle for the Spartans on the offensive end, as they made just two field goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half against Loras' air tight defense. The lead reached double digits three separate times for the visitors, including a late push from the free throw line to keep the result in their favor.

Loras' defense proved held their eighth opponent under 60 points. The Duhawks are 6-2 when allowing fewer than 60 points so far this season, 1-3 in games teams have eclipsed that mark.

The three game winning streak they are currently on matches their longest of the season, their 3-0 start to 2011-12.

The Cornell College Rams (4-7, 2-2) are in the AWC this Saturday to take on the Duhawks at 2:00 PM.
