Ashford 84, Loras 62

The Loras College men's basketball team took to the road for an NCAA Division III/NAIA matchup with the Ashford Saints on Saturday night. A big first half run by the Saints separated the two teams, and the Duhawks were unable to chip away at the hosts lead as they continued to knock down long distance shots.

Brian Gaughan made two early three pointers for his six points as the teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes.

During a ten minute stretch in the first half, Loras went cold on one end while the Saints took advantage and opened a 37-13 lead on the other. Among the weapons Ashford employed was their sharp-shooting from long distance, namely from Jonathan Wyatt and Devin Ehrich. Ehrich came off the bench to score 20 first half points, including 5-of-6 three point efforts and five free throws.

At the break, the Saints led 44-23.

Tim Kelly came out of the locker room and scored all 14 of his points over the final 20 minutes, going 6-of-8 from the floor in 13 minutes.

The hosts answered by knocking down seven more three pointers, three of which came from Wyatt. All told, the hosts made 27 field goals, 14 from behind the arc.

Ten Duhawks total scored on the night. Next closest to Kelly was Zack Peterson's nine.

Next up for the Duhawks (2-7) is another road trip in the state of Iowa, this time to Cedar Falls to take on the University of Northern Iowa Panthers (9-1) at the McLeod Center.  Tipoff is 7:00 PM. A contingency of Duhawks making the trip will gather at Pepper's (620 18thSt., Cedar Falls) from 4-6 PM.
