Duhawks finish second at Grinnell

The Loras College women's swimming team finished in second place among a deep field of participants at the Grinnell Pioneers Classic, which concluded on Saturday. The Duhawks regularly placed in the top five in the two-day event in Grinnell, Iowa to score a total of 676.5 team points.


Loras' individual title came in the 100 freestyle where Alex Proctor broke her own Pioneer Classic record. Proctor finished in 54.93, 0.78 seconds ahead of second place, and earned the Duhawks the maximum 24 team points.


Proctor added top five finishes as a part of two relay teams – the 200 Medley Relay (4thplace, 1:58.20) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (4thplace, 3:53.57).


Evayn Roper was second in the 1650 Freestyle race, in 19:30.71. She was also fifth in the 200 Freestyle.


Katie Callaghan was on the same two relay teams with Proctor, and added a fifth place finish in the 100 Butterfly (1:03.82) and fourth place finish in the 200 Butterfly (2:27.46).


Marguerite Del Vecchio finished fifth in the diving competition to earn Loras 18 points in the team standings.


Loras will host their first home meet of the 2011-12 season on Friday when the Augustana Vikings come to the San Jose Pool. The first race will begin at 6:00 PM.
