Duhawks drop three at LaCrosse Duals

The Duhawks took on more stiff competition at the Candlewood Suites Duals in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Saturday, falling to #2 UW-LaCrosse, #6 St. John's University, and UW-Eau Claire.




#2 UWL 36, Loras 6

Pat Pfantz started the day with a thrilling 7-5 overtime victory over Joey Nelson of the Eagles to score three of Loras' team points in the 125-pound match. Russ Gossen (165#) logged the other three points in a high-scoring 13-9 win over Kevin O'Brien. Three Duhawks – Matt Holmes, Josh Kirkland, and Ryan Ward lost closely contested decisions. Holmes lost by four points (6-2), and Kirkland and Ward each lost by two points (11-9 and 4-2).


Three other Duhawks were pinned in the loss.


UWEC 26, Loras 21

Pfantz entered with win column with a forfeit win at 125 pounds and Matt Holmes did the same at 133. The Duhawks earned two more wins over Eau Claire on the day.


The first came from Drew Salzman at 141 pounds – who pinned Neil Manns in the first period. The second came from Joe Butler at 165. Butler won a major decision 9-2 over Levi Polus.


Two major decision and two pins by the Blugolds helped them eclipse Loras in team points, finishing with a five point advantage.


#6 St. John's 26, Loras 12

Loras won two decisions and earned one pin against sixth-ranked St. John's to close the day.


Pfantz won a 7-2 decision over Matt Hickerson to give Loras their first three points of the day. Drew Salzman won his second straight match, 7-4, over Aaron Padrnos. Kyle Henry pinned John Scepaniak at 2:41 of the heavyweight match for Loras' final six points of the day.


St. John's rattled off six wins from 149 pounds-197 pounds to help them into the win column.


Loras will be in Waverly, Iowa for the Dick Walker Invite on Saturday, December 10.
