The Duhawks opened the 2011-12 Iowa Conference slate in Cedar Rapids against the Coe College Kohawks on Wednesday night. The hosts opened an 11 point halftime lead and defeated the Duhawks 65-48.

 

The Kohawks opened the game on a 10-2 run to take control early. Coe made 12 first half field goals to the Duhawks' seven.

 

Jordan Harrelson again came off the bench to lead the Duhawks with eight first half points. When Connor Mooney knocked down a three pointer late in the first half, his second of the opening 20 minutes – he moved right behind Harrelson with six. Harrelson added seven first half rebounds.

 

The Kohawks took a 31-20 lead into the locker room.

 

Loras improved the offense in the second half and knocked down 12 shots of their own, but went just 1-for-10 from long distance while the Kohawks were busy at the free throw line, going 11-for-13. The home team also made five three pointers to keep the Duhawks at a safe distance. The Duhawks cut the lead to single digits three times in the second half, but weren't able to inch any closer.

 

Harrelson finished with a team high 17 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, and Mooney added 10 points in the second half to finish with 16.

 

Coe held a +11 advantage in rebounds and were +12 in the paint.

 

Senior Dan Pawelski missed his second straight game with an injury.

 

Loras fell to 2-4, 0-1 with the loss. The Duhawks will host Luther College (4-1, 1-0) in the AWC on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
