Duhawks off to 2-1 start in duals

The Loras College men's swimming team moved to 2-0 in the Iowa Conference on Friday with a 109-26 win over Simpson. They followed with 137-102 loss to Grinnell on Friday.

Loras' men won eight of nine events in Indianola, Iowa on Friday night to move to 2-0 in Iowa Conference duals.


Matt Bogen won the 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, and swam on Loras' second place "B" 200 Freestyle Relay team to help the Duhawks to the win. Ricky Lukacs posted the win in the 200 IM, and was part of winning relays in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 200 Medley Relay.


Among other individual event winners were Tom Graziano (50 Freestyle), Ryan Momberger (100 Freestyle), Tom Young (100 Backstroke), and Shane Garren (100 Breaststroke).


Grinnell 137, Loras 102


The Duhawks headed to Grinnell on Saturday to race the Grinnell Pioneers.


Shane Garren won the 1,000 Yard Freestyle in 10:48.90 for one individual title for the Duhawks.


Other solid performances came from Andy Pape in the 50 Freestyle (2ndby less than one second) and the 100 Freestyle (3rdplace, just over one second from first). Tyler Beauchamp was second in the 200 Backstroke and Garren was just off the pace in the 200 Breaststroke. The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Pape, Grant Duncan, Tom Graziano, and Ricky Lukacs were three seconds off the Pioneers' top team.


The Duhawks are back in the Pioneers' pool on December 2-3 for the Grinnell Invitational. It will be the Duhawks' fifth event of the year. They defeated Coe on November 4 and placed second at the Monmouth Invitational on November 12. Their first home meet of the year is December 9 when they host Augustana. The dual will begin at 6:00 PM.
