Duhawks are 1-1 in IIAC, split weekend with Simpson and Grinnell

The Loras College women's swimming team moved to 1-1 in the Iowa Conference on Friday with a 106-51 win over Simpson. They followed with 129-109 loss to Grinnell on Friday.

Loras won 9 of 10 events on Friday night in Indianola, with only the solo swim by the Storm's 400 Freestyle participant keeping the Duhawks from sweeping the event.

 

Alex Proctor won the 200 IM going away in 2:46.59 and the 100 Backstroke by 4.5 seconds to help the Duhawks to the win. She was also the Duhawks' fastest leg of the winning 200 Freestyle Relay.

 

Other event winners were Desiree Tamez in the 200 Freestyle, Renee Beach in the 50 Freestyle, Katie Callaghan in the 100 Butterfly, Gabby Gaulke in the 100 Freestyle, and Abby Tjebkes in the 100 Breaststroke.

 

The win was Loras' first of the season and put Duhawks at 1-1 in the Iowa Conference.

 

Grinnell 129, Loras 109

 

The Grinnell Pioneers defeated the Duhawks one day after the Simpson dual in Grinnell, Iowa by 20 team points to give the Duhawks their second dual loss of the year.

 

Proctor dominated the 50 Freestyle, winning in just 25.67 seconds and she followed with a 3+ second win in the 100 Freestyle. Additionally, she was the anchor on Loras' 400 Medley Relay team that was just 0.60 seconds from the winning time.

 

Gabby Gaulke won the 200 Butterfly in 2:28.53 for the Duhawks as well.

 

Stephanie Czarobski was second in the 200 IM and Loras' best effort in the 200 Backstroke.

 

The Duhawks are back in the Pioneers' pool on December 2-3 for the Grinnell Invitational. It will be the Duhawks' fifth event of the year. They lost to Coe on November 4 and placed second at the Monmouth Invitational on November 12. Their first home meet of the year is December 9 when they host Augustana. The dual will begin at 6:00 PM.
