Duhawks 1st of 4

The Loras College men's cross country team won the Dr. Robert Tucker Invitational on Friday with an impressive team score of 26 at the Dubuque Soccer Complex. In a field of four teams and 44 runners, the Duhawks came to the finish line in each of the first two spots and had a total of four runners in the top ten.

The junior duo of Ryan Engelman and Mike Higgins came to the finish line just one second apart, in times of 27:12 and 27:13. Dain Leytem and Austin Steil were also side-by-side in seventh and eighth place overall (sixth and seventh on the score sheet) in 27:36. Junior Tom Henders was 12th overall and tenth in the scoring column with his 28:15.

North Iowa Area Community College had runners finish in third, fourth, and fifth. They finished with a team score of 38. Lincoln College's top finisher was eighth (81) and Southwestern Community College (95) posted an eleventh place.

The Duhawks now prepare for the Iowa Conference Championships on Halloween. Loras will return to the site of the Dan Huston Invitational on October 10th. Last year, Loras finished in second place, right in between Luther and Coe - who finished 1st/3rd. On October 10, Loras' top five runners were separated by just 0:16 when they finished eighth in a field of 13 teams, including five Iowa Conference schools. Leytem led that group.
