Loras 3, Hanover 0

A comfortable Saturday afternoon in Dubuque set the stage for a comfortable 3-0 win for the Loras College women's soccer team on Saturday as the Duhawks won their opening round game over Hanover College.

The Panthers entered the Rock Bowl as rookies to the NCAA Tournament as the Duhawks looked to win their opening round game at home for the second straight year.

A trio of first half goals put the #9 Duhawks into the second round – thanks to goals by Danielle Vujovic, Ali Schmitt, and Kate Young.

Loras was in control early, and on their first official shot of the game, Danielle Vujovic headed in a Madeline Tennant pass past Hanover goalkeeper Bethann Hancock to open the scoring. The Duhawks' goal came just 4:43 into the game.

Less than two minutes later the Duhawks doubled the lead when Ali Schmitt pounced on a loose ball to make it 2-0.

Lisa Waltz slipped a pass through to Kate Young in the 28thminute to make it 3-0 heading into halftime. Young's goal was her team high 12thof the season.

Loras held an 8-0 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Loras again held a shot advantage, this time just 5-3 as the Panthers forced Katie Chambers to make one save and reserve goalkeeper Hannah Wilson into another.

The Duhawks kept the Panthers at a safe distance for much of the match and used 22 players.

The win puts the Duhawks into the second round regional finals against the St. Benedict Blazers at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
