Loras 2, Minnesota-Morris 0

On a cold but clear night in Dubuque, Iowa the Duhawks warmed up the student section of the Rock Bowl early with a goal in the 10thminute and followed with an insurance goal in the 58thminute to beat Minnesota-Morris, 2-0.

The Duhawks came out strong on their home turf on Friday night, taking four shots over the first nine minutes and six seconds to grab hold of the momentum early.

Just past nine minutes in freshman Tom Fluegel drove a cleanly struck right-footed shot from outside the 18-yard box into the side-netting of the far post past Cougars goalkeeper Tyler Weber. Fleugel's fourth goal of the year gave Loras an early 1-0 lead and the home fans reason to celebrate.

Loras continued the early momentum to the tune of an 11-1 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes, forcing Upper Midwest Conference Tournament MVP goalkeeper Weber into six first half saves – one of which came shortly after Fleugel's goal and required a fantastic sprawling effort on a Camilo Garces shot.

Thirteen minutes into the second half Chris Comstock tucked away a loose ball that Brad Joiner brought into the Cougars' penalty box to make it 2-0. That score would stand as the final as the run of play evened out slightly and the shot totals over the final 45 minutes tipped back to 5-5. Nate DuBois would make two second half saves for the Duhawks in goal on a pair of Ebrima Badgie shots to preserve the shutout for Loras. Badgie took four of Minnesota-Morris' six shots on the night from his target forward position.

The win put the Duhawks at 10-0-2 at home in 2011 and into the second round to face Calvin College. The Knights won Friday evening's game over Carthage College in the Rock Bowl, 1-0. The Duhawks (17-2-3) and Knights (16-5-1) will kickoff at 6:00 PM on Saturday evening. The game will be streamed live on duhawks.com HERE.
