Meyer Named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week

Loras College sophomore linebacker Eric Meyer was named the Iowa Conference's Male Athlete of the Week for his performance in the October 10, 2009 game against the University of Dubuque.

Meyer, a Dubuque native and graduate of Hempstead High School, posted the best game of his young Loras career with 10.5 tackles against the Spartans. He halted the Dubuque offense nine times on his own with solo tackles and added three assists. Meyer leads Loras in tackles so far in 2009 with 28.5 through six games. He also posted his first tackle for loss on Saturday night.

In addition to his tackles, Meyer made waves with his performance on special teams and role in turnovers. He blocked a punt, forced two fumbles, and recovered one. He also broke up a long pass by Spartans quarterback Colton Hansen as he dropped into coverage down field.

Loras has this week off before hosting #8 Central College on October 24 in the Rock Bowl.
