The Loras College men's soccer team closed the books on the 2011 regular season in a big way on Wednesday night, dropping the Cornell Rams in the Rock Bowl by a whopping 13-0 margin. All 13 goals came in the final 70 minutes, including 11 in the second half.

Loras 13, Cornell 0

Kevin Cavers opened the scoring in the 24thminute with a wonderful individual effort and long range shot to beat Rams goalkeeper Jordan Setser. Later in the first half, just moments after stepping onto the field as a substitute, Marc Venisse one-timed a long Dan Miller throw to make it 2-0 at the intermission.

Loras put a total of 13 shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. Setser saved 11 of them.

The second half was a memorable one for one Duhawk in particular as senior Kyle Quillin, who got the start on Wednesday night, scored three times in a ten minute span in the early parts of the second half.

After Tim Van den Bergh made it 3-0 less than a minute into the second half, Quillin started his goal-scoring efforts from the penalty spot in the 59thminute. After Setser left early on the first penalty kick and kept the Onalaska, Wisconsin native's shot out, the senior got a do-over and put it home. Just over a minute later, he was slotting home his second goal. In the 67thminute, he finished a Johnny Rummelhart pass to make it a hat trick.

Joining Venisse in scoring their first goals of 2011 over the final 45 minutes were Tom Cole and Colin Pekovitch. Miller scored his second of the year. Pat Langan scored twice, including a top shelf free kick. Louie Oswald also scored his seventh of the year.

Loras closed the 2011 regular season at 14-2-3 and 6-1-1 in the IIAC. They earned the #2 seed in the Iowa Conference Tournament and will begin play on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM when they host the winner of the Simpson/Central game which takes place this Saturday.

Among Loras' regular season accomplishments this year was extending their Rock Bowl unbeaten streak. The Duhawks were 8-0-2 at home this year and unbeaten in their last 18 home contests, dating back to September 25 of 2010.
