Wilson, Vujovic each scored twice for the Duhawks on Wednesday

The women's soccer team started their game against Cornell College slow, but by the end of the first half Loras was ready to claim its second straight Iowa Conference championship, sharing it with Wartburg College.


Loras 9, Cornell 0


Danielle Vujovic opened up the gates for Loras with her sixth goal of the season in the 14th minute assisted by Jessica Kern, and she followed up with her seventh goal of the season in the 28th minute to put the Duhawks in front early.


The Duhawks would add four more goals before halftime – Kate Young (11th) in the 28th minute, Jill Leibforth (2nd) in the 40th, Kristina Everding (2nd) in the 43th, and Hillary Wilson (1st) in the 44thminute.


Goalkeeper Katie Chambers did not see much action throughout the first half with her teammates putting up 22 shots while Cornell managed one.


The second half welcomed playing time to much of Loras' second line of players including Hannah Wilson in the net, who would save Cornell's only two shots on goal.


Tonya Lohmeyer scored the Loras' 7th goal on the day, as well as her 7th goal of the season in the 56th minute. Lisa Waltz made it 8-0 in the 59thminute with her 6thgoal of the season, and Hillary Wilson closed the scoring at 9-0 with her 2nd goal of the day and the year.


Loras out-shot Cornell 36-6 overall for the game.


The win put the Duhawks at 9-0-1 in the Rock Bowl in 2011 and extended their home unbeaten streak to 27 games dating back to October 28, 2009. They've gone 15-0-1 in the IIAC over the last two seasons.


With the Iowa Conference champion title the Duhawks have earned a bye in the first round of the IIAC tournament and play the winner of the University of Dubuque/Luther College on Wednesday, November 2ndat 5:00 PM.
