Duhawk softball makes the grade

The Loras softball team was recognized on October 10 for its achievements off the field last season, honored as a 2010-11 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Academic Team. The Duhawks accumulated a 3.167 grade point average (GPA), ranking 92nd among NCAA Division III schools.


Five Loras softball players received the honor of being named as Division III All-America Scholar Athletes -- Katelyn Jones (Okoboji, IA), Lara Mangialardi (Elmhurst, IL), Nancy Pater (Berwyn, IL), Niki Rivera (Sterling, IL), and Ashley Reimer (Elkader, IA), who graduated last May.


The award is given to the players who achieve a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-2011 academic year.


Over 4,000 student-athletes representing over 700 different academic institutions were named as a 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete. This year's total of 4,331 honorees bested last year's total by over 30 student-athletes.


Division III had the most honorees from any participating institution with 168 student-athletes.
