Duhawks post solid performance at Pre-Nationals

After cheering their teammates on at the 2011 Dr. Robert Tucker Invitational on Friday, Loras' top five runners each finished the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship course in less than 27 minutes at UW-Oshkosh's Pre-National meet on Saturday.

 

With a loaded field that included 14 of the nation's top 40 teams, Loras posted a solid 15thplace in Wisconsin. A total of 47 teams attacked the course.

 

Leading the way for Loras was senior Dan McDermott, who finished in 34thplace and reached the finish line in 25:51. Next to the line for the Duhawks was Jerry Olp, who was 23 seconds behind McDermott in 26:14. Ty Wittman was next for Loras twelve seconds later in 86thplace. The final two scoring spots came from Steve Loran in 113th(26:40) and Chris Higgins in 134th(26:54).

 

Rob Howe was just two seconds behind Higgins in 140thand Austin Steil finished the course in 27:00 flat – good for the 150thslot.

 

The Duhawks now wait for the 2011 Iowa Conference Championships on October 29thin Decorah, Iowa. A year ago the Duhawks finished in second place, four spots behind the winners.
