Loras 3, Wartburg 1

The Duhawks and Knights battled each other in the first half and a steady rain in the second half on Wednesday night in the Rock Bowl as the home team prevailed 3-1.

Wartburg struck first in the 11thminute on a corner kick to take early control of the Iowa Conference tilt, but the Duhawks rallied late in the first half and early in the second half to earn their seventh home win of 2011.

Bob Brown's corner kick found the head of Kris Krohn on the back post at the 10:31 mark of the first half to give the visitors a lead. They would hold that lead until late in the first half while forcing Nate DuBois in the Loras goal to make three first half saves.

At the 44:36 mark, Forrest Olson scored his second goal of the year when he teed up a quick shot from the corner of the 18-yard box. The Duhawks' first three shots on goal in the first half had all been saved by Cade Shatzer.

With the momentum built by Olson's goal late in the first half, the Duhawks came out strong in the second half to find the eventual game winner.

Louie Oswald was on the doorstep after Kevin Cavers sent Camilo Garces towards the Wartburg end line. Garces quickly moved to cross the ball towards Oswald, who scored his sixth goal of the year with his one-time effort.

The Duhawks would hold the Knights off the scoreboard over the final 45 minutes and score an insurance goal in the 85thminute. Substitute Dillon Olson sent a useful cross to Donald St. George who promptly headed the convincing strike past Shatzer.

The 3-1 win moved the Duhawks to 4-0-1 in the IIAC at are the only unbeaten team in the IIAC to this point. The final three IIAC games are at Simpson on Saturday and then there are a road game with Luther and home contest with Cornell left on the IIAC slate. Kickoff on Saturday in Indianola is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
