Mon, Oct. 3, 2011 - [Women's Soccer]

The Loras College women's soccer team moved to 9-1-1 this weekend with wins over Augsburg College (2-0) and Buena Vista University (3-0). Loras has now won seven straight games and shutout four straight opponents.

Loras 2, Augsburg 0

The Duhawks turned a 22-5 shot advantage (7-2 on goal) into a 2-0 win over Augsburg College on Friday evening with two second half goals. The Auggies held off the Duhawks attacks for the first 79 minutes – but weren't able to keep the home team out for the final ten.

Madeline Tennant was on the front post for Ali Schmitt's corner kick in the 80thminute. Tennant won the short race to the ball and redirected the in-swinging pass for the game's first goal.

Just four minutes later, Kate Young and Jessica Kern combined on the right side of the penalty area and found Danielle Vujovic in the middle of the box for the Loras' second goal of the night – Vujovic's fourth of the season.

Katie Chambers made one save in each half for the Duhawks who earned their sixth straight win at home in 2011.

The Duhawks' Rock Bowl unbeaten streak is at 23 games. They'll return to the home turf on October 8 when they host Central College at 3:30 PM.

Loras 3, Buena Vista 0

The Duhawks took their winning streak on the road the next day when they took the IIAC's longest trip to Storm Lake, Iowa to take on the Buena Vista Beavers.

Kate Young was active in the first half, scoring Loras' first two goals. Both goals, Young's team high sixth and seventh of the season, were unassisted. The first came in the 20thminute. The second came exactly three minutes later.

Young's first half double was all the scoring the Duhawks would muster in the opening 45 minutes when they built a 17-2 shot advantage. Both of Buena Vista's efforts required saves of Katie Chambers in the Loras goal.

Loras' final goal came in the 81stminute when Frankie Mosca scored her second goal of the year on a Kristina Everding pass to wrap up the scoring.

Hannah Wilson made three saves in the second half to preserve the shutout for Loras.

Next up on the schedule is the Coe Kohawks in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff was recently moved to 2:00 PM. The Duhawks are tied atop the IIAC right now with the Wartburg Knights at 2-0. Coe is 0-2 in the IIAC so far with 1-0 losses to Central and Simpson.
