Loras 2nd of 4 teams

Homecoming weekend turned out to be a productive couple of days for one hometown golfer.

Dubuque's own Abby Potts earned medalist honors at the 24-golfer field at The Meadows and Thunder Hills September 23 and 24 at Loras' annual Fall Invitational. Potts shot an opening round 88 and followed with a final round 87 to reach 175 strokes.

Elmhurst's Ashley Beverage went 93/82-175 to force a playoff, which the left-handed junior Potts handled to win the tiebreaker. Potts was the only golfer on the weekend to post two rounds in the 80's.

Loras held an opening round team lead of 366-373 over the Elmhurst College  Blue Jays, but the Blue Jays took 23 shots off their team score from day one to day two while the Duhawks added eight strokes. The Blue Jays finished at 723 to the Duhawks' 740.

Kathryn Belanger went from a 94 to a 93 and finished eighth overall. Finishing four strokes apart were Lauren Gonner (98/92-190), Christine Jackson (92/99-191), and Shayna Siegert (98/96-194).

The Duhawks will now prepare for the Iowa Conference Tournament, which begins this weekend at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
