Loras 3, Dubuque 0

The #14 Loras College men's soccer team improved to 7-1-1 on the year and moved to 1-0 in the IIAC with their 13thstraight win at home on Saturday night.

Crosstown rival University of Dubuque spent much of the night defending as the Duhawks mounted an 11-2 first half shot advantage on their way to a 2-0 intermission lead. They added one more in the 81stminute to make the final 3-0.

Each of the three goals was delightful in their own way.

The first came off a Brad Joiner assist after tracking down a long pass on the edge of the Spartans' 18-yard box. Joiner rolled a pass toward the top of the box where Tom Fluegel casually dummied a shot attempt, leaving a rushing Donald St. George alone to pound home the game's first goal in the 33rdminute.

Just before halftime, Louie Oswald scored a fantastic goal from 30 yards out. He brushed off one attempt at a tackle on his way towards the top of the box and set himself up for a right-footed drive that danced its way past a frozen Nick Kasper in the Dubuque goal to make it 2-0.

Then Kevin Cavers added to his team high assist total when he sent a floating free kick onto the Spartans' door step. Pat Langan flicked it home and braced himself for the contact with Kasper, who had come to try and beat Langan to the pass.

A header by Nick McDonald proved to be the Spartans' best chance to beat Loras goalkeeper Nate DuBois, but the senior hustled back to tip it over the bar to preserve the shutout late in the second half.

Loras' home winning streak moved to 13 games with the IIAC win. Saturday's win also marked the first time the Duhawks have played at home in front of a Homecoming crowd since moving to the Rock Bowl.

Next up is the Augsburg Auggies next Friday night at 7:30 PM in the Rock Bowl.
