Storm calmed by Frost, Duhawks

The Loras College volleyball team returned to the AWC on Wednesday night for their second consecutive home game of the year and fourth in the Iowa Conference.


At the halfway point of the IIAC schedule, Loras sits at 3-1 and 6-6 overall.


Loras 3, Simpson 0

The Duhawks took three straight sets from the Simpson College Storm on Wednesday night, winning 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.


Kaity Frost headlined the attack, hitting .379 with 13 kills and just two errors on 29 attempts. She added two blocks and nine digs to her stat line.


Cassie Crabill was also efficient, registering kills on half of her 16 attempts and hitting .500. Crabill was also effecting at the net, helping on four blocks.


Defensively, the Duhawks kept the Simpson offense from finding a rhythm by putting three Duhawks in double digits in digs. Anna Wernimont led the team with 18, followed by Julie Rogers' 14 and Kenzie Goedken's 10.


Rogers logged 25 assists on Loras' 32 team kills.


Megan Dunlavy led the Storm with 13 kills, but Simpson hit just .107 and fell to 0-3 in the IIAC with the loss.


This weekend, Loras will head to the University of Chicago's Gargoyle Classic. Next Wednesday, they will be in Decorah, Iowa to take on the Luther College Norse (9-6, 0-2).


Loras' next home game is "Pink Night" night, when Central College comes to the AWC on October 11.
