Loras 2, Macalester 0

In a game that Duhawk Nation helped to vote as the NCAA Division III's Game of the Week on Facebook, the Loras College women's soccer team extended their home unbeaten streak to 18 games with a 2-0 win over the visiting Macalester College Scots.

The Duhawks scored once in each half, both from beyond the 18-yard box, to earn the win.

Loras' first goal came late in the first half when Jayne Eslinger converted a free kick from 25 yards away. Her right-footed shot glanced off the cross bar and froze all 22 players momentarily while the center official and assistant referee confirmed that the bounce down off of the crossbar did in fact clear the goal line.

The second came in the 82ndminute when Tonya Lohmeyer pulled the trigger from the top of the box after receiving a Danielle Vujovic pass. The senior midfielder sealed the victory for Loras, who improved to 3-2 on the young season. Lohmeyer's goal was her second of 2011.

The two goals scored by the Duhawks were the first two conceded by the Scots of 2011. Macalester fell to 3-1 with the loss.

Katie Chambers made two of her five saves after Loras went up 2-0 in her second game back from injury to earn her first win and shutout of the 2011 season. The Duhawks held a 14-9 advantage in shots.

The Duhawks continue their string of six straight home games this weekend as part of the Loras-UW Platteville Invitational. The Duhawks will play Nebraska Wesleyan at 11:00 AM on Saturday and then return to the Rock Bowl on Sunday to play St. Norbert at noon.
