Joiner drives home GWG in the 62nd minute

Loras 2

Macalester 1

Brad Joiner's top shelf effort from 15 yards away was the difference in Loras' first home game of the 2011 season.

The Rock Bowl provided a tremendous early season setting on a warm Sunday afternoon to open the season for the Duhawks and Macalester College. Coming off a draw and a win earlier in the week, the Duhawks were looking to continue their winning ways at home.

Loras outshot the Scots 5-3 in the first half, including the first goal of the game.

It was Dan Figura's second goal of the season in the 20thminute that opened the scoring, and it was a carbon copy of his first, which was Loras' first of the 2011 season on September 2. Figura headed home a corner kick to put the Duhawks on top 1-0. This time the assist went to Joiner.

After opening up a first half lead, the Scots battled to even the score in the second half courtesy of a header of their own. Taylor Rasmussen redirected a Robin Forslund cross in the 59thminute to get Macalester on the board.

Just three minutes later, Joiner and Fluegel combined on a nifty series of quick passes at the top of the Scots' 18-yard box before the junior from Lemont, Illinois pulled the trigger.

Matt Weyer was forced to make nine saves on the day.

Duhawk defender Malcolm Calbert left the game with an injury in the first half and didn't return.

Each team was issued two yellow cards during the 90-minute match.

Loras returns to the Rock Bowl to take on tri-state neighbor UW-Platteville on Tuesday night. The game can be seen live on GameCentral at duhawks.com beginning at 7:30 PM.
