Men's Cross Country team leaves the starting line tomorrow in Decorah, Iowa
Fri, Sep. 9, 2011 - [Men's Cross Country]

Under seventh year head coach Bob Schultz (Loras, Class of 1994, MA), both the men's & women's teams are looking to continue their climb toward the top of the Iowa Conference and the NCAA Central Region in 2011.  The Loras men graduated two from their top seven but return a veteran group that is ready to reach new heights this season.

Loras' strength in 2010 was their youth.  In 2011, those young runners are back and hungry to reach heights never accomplished by a Loras College Cross Country team.

The Duhawks are excited to return 3 All-Conference and 3 All-Region runners in senior Dan McDermott and juniors Austin Steil and Chris Higgins.  McDermott, who qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships as an individual last fall is coming off a stellar track season where he earned All-Conference honors and made Loras' Top 10 list for the 5000 and 10,000 Meter Runs.

Other top returners for Loras are senior Chris Miller and sophomore Michael Bukszar.  Along with the returners, Loras boasts what Coach Schultz is calling his largest and one of his best recruiting classes ever.

Junior college transfer Greg Adelman from Waubonsee Community College heads the class after helping Geneva High School (Ill.) to a 3rdplace finish at the state championships in 2008.  Top freshman include Rob Howe from Fenton (Ill.), Steve Loran from West Aurora (Ill.), Ryan Sheeran from St. Laurence (Ill.) and Ty Wittman from Dubuque Senior (Iowa).

The Duhawks goals are set high this fall, shooting for the Iowa Conference Championship and the first NCAA Division III Central Region Championship in school history - along with their first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2005.
