Women's Cross Country takes the course for the first time in 2011 tomorrow
Fri, Sep. 9, 2011 - [Women's Cross Country]

Under seventh year head coach Bob Schultz (Loras, Class of 1994, MA), both the men's & women's teams are looking to continue their climb toward the top of the Iowa Conference and the NCAA Division III Central Region in 2011.  The Loras women graduated two from their top seven but return a veteran group that is ready to reach new heights this season.

Despite the graduation of track All-American and cross country All-Conferene and All-Region runner Tara Kilburg and 4 year varsity runner Meg Wolett, the Duhawks return the rest of their top runners from a year ago.

Loras finished the 2010 season 4thin the Iowa Conference and 10thin the NCAA Central Region.  Pre-season polls have the Duhawks ranked 3rdin the Iowa Conference and 8thin the NCAA Central Region - arguably the top region in the nation - traditionally sending the maximum of 5 teams to the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The top returner for the Duhawks is All-Conference and All-Region runner Katie Hemesath.  Hemesath, a senior, is coming off a strong track season where she established a new school record in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.  Other returnees with top seven experience are senior Genna Kinley, juniors Maria Kalb and Katie Flogel and sophomores Mary Rector and Kellie Wagner.

With the addition of a number of quality freshman in Amanda Elsen from Nekoosa (Wis.), Becky Hilby from Boylan Catholic (Ill.) and Hallie Martin from Xavier (Iowa), the Duhawks are looking to move up in the IIAC and the NCAA Central Region.

That move will begin tomorrow at Luther College's All-American Invitational in Decorah, Iowa.
