Double OT ends with a PK
By: Kristine Mason, SID Assistant

The Loras College men's soccer team fought off the Central College Dutch on Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 double overtime victory in the Rock Bowl.

A very physical battle kept these two teams tied at 1-1 until the 101st minute when one foul from the Dutch was whistled in the penalty box, earning Loras a penalty kick to win the game. Four yellow cards were distributed throughout the game for hard fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Duhawks held the Dutch to 1-0 after a cross from senior Santiago Mejia was headed in by junior Miguel Bonilla in the 27th minute. Brett McKenzie of Central made things even on a free kick just outside the 18 yard line in the 70th minute. The score remained tied through regulation until two minutes into the second overtime when Bonilla was fouled in the box, earned a PK and finished it for his 9th goal of the season.

The #5 ranked Duhawks will travel to Decorah, Iowa to take on the Luther College Norse (3-5-1, 1-1-0) at 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 7.
