Four Duhawks headed to Ohio
Mon, May. 23, 2011 - [Women's Indoor Track & Field]

There are four seniors on the Loras College women's track and field team in 2010-11. They took the memorable walk across the graduation stage on Saturday. And now, their time together will be extended by another week, as each gets the chance to wear the purple and gold at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio.

Tara Kilburg, Laura Rieger, Danielle McNally, and Heidi Tobin will make the trek to Ohio this week in search of All-American honors (top eight at the meet). Rieger made the All-American cut this indoor season when she finished fourth in the 800 Meter race in mid March.

Kilburg, from LaMotte, Iowa will run the 1500 meter race. She currently sits in third on Loras' all-time list in the event and was second at this year's Iowa Conference championships in the event. She qualified with her 4:36.59 at North Central's event late last week. She owns the nineteenth best time in the country entering the championships.

Rieger, from Minneapolis, Minnesota will run the 800 meter race. She set the Loras' all-time mark in the event earlier this year at the UW-Platteville Invitational when she posted a 2:11.41. Rieger enters with the tenth best time in the country in the event.

In the throwing events Danielle McNally, from Monona, Iowa will try her best at the Discus. McNally was third at the IIAC Championships in the event and also owns the fourth best throw in Loras history. She threw a season best 148'-7" at last week's event hosted by Augustana. She has the fifteenth best effort in NCAA Division III entering the championships.

Heidi Tobin will compete in the Hammer Throw in her final meet. Tobin also owns Loras' fourth best effort in this event. This one came at Loras' own Midweek meet on April 20. Tobin's 168'-2" toss qualified her in the seventeenth slot in the country.

"I just want to recognize what a special group of women that this is," head coach Bob Schultz said Monday.

"I am happy for all of them to be going out together with their final meet in a Duhawk uniform at the NCAA Championships.  It's not a large group, but it certainly is a great group!"

The season finale begins on May 26. You can follow the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships HERE.
