Five Duhawks recognized by the IIAC

All-Iowa Conference Softball Team

The Loras College Softball team had a number of players named to the All-Iowa Conference Team this week. Receiving First Team All-Iowa Conference honors was senior Deanna Angelini at third base. Second Team All Iowa-Conference honors went to sophomore Kellie Klein (pitcher) and senior Tracy Sullivan (catcher). Honorable Mention went to Kelsey senior Techlin and Beth Miller, both in the outfield. 

Angelini had a batting average of .233 overall and that number went up to .341 in the 16 league games to go with a .925 fielding percentage - a number that also went up in league games to .932.

Kellie Klein had an ERA of 3.39 to earn her spot on the Second Team. Her ERA in her eight league games was just 2.69, good for fifth in the league. She also added four homeruns, and six doubles.

Tracy Sullivan threw out 32% of the base runners from behind the plate (including an IIAC-best four in her league games), had the highest batting average on the Duhawks with .351, had a team high of five homeruns, nine doubles, and a team high 28 RBIs.

Kelsey Techlin led not only the Duhawks, but also in the Iowa Conference in with 24 stolen bases overall and eight during IIAC games.

Beth Miller led the team in hits, runs, triples, and was also second on the team for stolen bases (18) and batting average (.343).

The Duhawks improved by two games in the won-loss column in the Iowa Conference from 2010 to 2011. They were the #5 seed in this year's IIAC Tournament and won their first tournament game under the current format in program history.
