Wed, May. 11, 2011 - [Women's Volleyball]

On March 2, 2008 Loras College student Audrey Fitzgerald entered into eternal life. The cause of death was bacterial meningitis, and the news shocked all of those around her - her family and friends, the Loras College community, her teammates on the volleyball team, and her hometown of Independence, Iowa.

As a way to remember their friend and loved one, the family and friends of Audrey have organized a 5K Run/Walk at her high school for Saturday, May 21. The event will be generating funds for the award in her name at Loras College, which will be granted to a Duhawk who "exemplifies Audrey's strengths and her charismatic personality".

The Independence, Iowa native made a big impact in just a short time on the Loras College campus and an even larger impression on those she knew best in and around her hometown. The Independence High School Track will serve as the "course", and the race will start at 9:00 AM on May 21.

More details of the event, including a sign-up sheet and waiver, are available online here:

The organizers have also put together a Facebook page HERE.

Registration begins at 7:30 AM and the cost of the event is $20 if you sign up between now and the beginning of the race, May 21.

Gifts to Loras College, specifically for the "Audrey Fitzgerald Award", can also be made at loras.edu/donate by simply clicking the "other" button and entering "Audrey Fitzgerald Award" in the comment line.
