Three Duhawks win events at Loras Open

Loras Open RESULTS

The Loras College track and field teams hosted their annual Open meet on April 30 and three Duhawks walked away with event titles.

Junior Dan McDermott took home the 5000 Meter title in Loras Open record time. McDermott came to the finish line in 15:03.40, defeating the runner-up by nearly seven seconds. Senior Mike Higgins took the Steeplechase event by three seconds over Dubuque's Dakota Pruitt in a time of 9:51.19. Sophomore Jeff Schmidt won the 400 Meter Hurdles by just :00.12 seconds. Schmidt crossed the finish line in 56.27 seconds ahead of Augustana's Marty King.

Junior Chris Miller was runner up in the 800 Meter Run by a slim :00.21 margin. Miller's time was 1:59.81, one of two sub-2:00 times in the race.

Frosh Tommy Carr finished third in the 10K Meter Run in the middle of a handful of runners from Monmouth. Carr finished in 35:23.87.

The Duhawks will travel to Monmouth College on Saturday, May 7 for the Fighting Scots' Invitational as they prepare for the IIAC Championships the following weekend at Cornell College.
