The Loras College baseball team played a couple nonconference nine inning games last week and picked up two wins in a combined score of 16-1, including one win over a top 15 team in the nation.

Loras 7, Augustana 1

On Wednesday, the Duhawks traveled to Moline, Illinois to face #13 Augustana College and scored quickly thanks to an Austin Brown sacrifice fly, scoring Mike Canevello. Augustana tied it up with one run in the bottom of the fourth but the Duhawks answered strong. In the top of the 5th, three straight singles and a two run single by BJ Juergens gave Loras a 4-1 lead and they never looked back.

After a Calvin Rea walk and sacrifice bunt pushing him into scoring position, Connor Reilly knocked in Rea on a single to center field. Reilly eventually came around to score on an infield single by Brown, giving the Duhawks a 6-1 lead. Loras added one more run in the 9th after a double by Brown and single by Juergens, extending their lead to 7-1.

Kevin Moriarity pitched eight magnificent innings allowing just six hits, one unearned run, and five strikeouts to pick up his fourth win of the season. The Evergreen, IL native was named Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week for his dominating performance. Spencer Radabaugh relived the right hander in the ninth and set the #13 ranked Vikings down in order.

Loras 9, Dominican 0

The Duhawks continued to perform at a high level on Thursday at Scaumburg, Illinois against Dominican University, once again scoring early. Mike Pudlo and Mike Canevello set the table in the top of the 1st reaching base on a walk and error, respectively. Austin Brown hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Pudlo. BJ Juergens followed with a triple to right center, scoring Canevello.

A couple errors by the Stars in the 4th inning allowed the Duhawks to reach twice and bring Connor Reilly around to score. Joe Walker followed with a single, allowing Travis Olson to touch home and extend the lead to 4-0.

Loras was able to put together a two out rally in the 6th inning. Calvin Rea reached on an error with two outs. After stealing second, a Travis Olson single allowed him to score. Olson moved to second on a wild pitch and scored after a Joe Walker single left. Walker stole his team best 15th base and scored on an error and a single by Pudlo.

The Duhawks loaded the bases in the 8th and scored Rea on a sacrifice fly by Pudlo. Brown singled to center allowing Travis Olson to score to push Loras up 9-0, where the game would end. The single by Brown extended his hitting streak to 18 games.

Kendall Paluch pitched six excellent innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six batters while only walking two to pick up his fourth win of the year. Ben Cottrell, Kyler Laurie, and Eric Rife pitched an inning each in relief, giving up a combined one hit in the final three innings.

Up next for the Duhawks includes a single nine inning game at University of Dubuque tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. before hosting Buena Vista University this weekend for a three game series starting on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
