IIAC Men's Golf Championships - Leaderboard

The Loras College men's golf team competed in the first two rounds of the IIAC Championships at Buena Vista on Saturday and Sunday and currently sit in second place with Sam Herrmann atop the leader board.

Herrmann, a sophomore, shot an opening round best 73 and followed with another 73 on Sunday for a 146/+2, giving him a three shot lead going into the final two rounds.
"I played pretty well considering the conditions on Saturday. To say it was windy would be an understatement," Herrmann said upon returning to Dubuque.
"I putted REALLY well and that's how I kept my score down, for sure. You just always have a hard time putting up a good score if you don't putt well, even if you're swinging it well at other places on the course," Herrmann added.
"I'm happy with how I played, but (Finkbine) is a whole different course, with a lot more challenging holes still to be played. It really is almost nother tournament, when you think about it. You start from scratch for the second weekend, and I have to play like I'm starting from zero, like I don't have a 3-stroke lead."

Joe Leibfried shot a 77 in the opening round and a 76 in the second to finish at 153/+9, placing him tied for sixth. Noel Frideres is tied for 24th with a 162/+18, Bubba Carter is in 28th after a 163/+19, and Kyle Domeyer is tied for 40th with a 173/+29.

As a team, the Duhawks shot a 624/+48, good for second place halfway through the IIAC Championships.
"The guys started to really put things together this weeked, weren't looking ahead," head coach Jeremy Hawkins said after round two. "Guys, including Sam, really stayed in their routine and it paid off for them."
"The guys played tough and we lowered some scores on the second day to help us leapfrog Buena Vista," Hawkins added.
"Joe (Leibfried) battled his way to two rounds in the 70's which helped us out a lot, and Noel (Frideres), Bubba (Carter), and Kyle (Domeyer) each dropped a bunch of shots from the first round to the second."
The third and final rounds will be played Friday-Saturday, April 29-30 at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City starting at 11:00 a.m.
