Stats through March 21 HERE
The Loras College softball team recently completed their spring trip to Clermont, Florida March 16-20, playing eight games over five days. The Duhawks played two games each day, with one day off in between. A crushing 14-0 victory over Knox College got the Duhawks into the win column in Florida after dropping their first four games, three in close fashion. Loras picked up another victory against University of Chicago in their last game after suffering two losses after their win against Knox. The Duhawks are now twelve games into the season, and Tracy Sullivan leads the team with an impressive .364 batting average. Beth Miller leads the team with 14 hits and 7 runs. Kellie Klein picked up the two wins for the Duhawks in the circle during the Florida trip.
The Duhawks started off their string of eight games against Rhode Island. Kellie Klein pitched all six innings and only gave up four hits and three runs along with seven strikeouts, but the Duhawks couldn't get their bats going and were unable to produce any runs against the Anchorwomen. In their second game of the day, Loras faced Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning but were unable to add to it. RPI took the lead with a three run fifth inning and never looked back, defeating the Duhawks 5-2. Sara Palczynski went 2-for-2 at the plate and Kelsey Techlin and Beth Miller scored the two runs for Loras.
After a day off, the Duhawks faced Ripon College and once again had a difficult time getting the bats going, losing 4-0. Kelsey Techlin and Katelyn Jones each recorded two hits in the game, but Loras was unable to string any hits together to push runs across the plate. In the second game of the day, the Duhawks took on #24 SUNY-Cortland and battled the Red Dragons until a five-run sixth inning was too much to overcome and Loras lost 9-2. Beth Miller went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Duhawks.
On their third day of games, Loras got their first victory in Florida versus Knox College in a 14-0 rout in five innings. Loras finished with a total of 21 hits and every starter for the Duhawks recorded a hit, including three hits each by Kelsey Techlin, Sara Palczynski, Kellie Klein, and Shelby Perkins. Klein pitched all five innings and allowed just three hits in the game. Loras faced Hope College in a pitcher's duel for their second game. The Flying Dutch were able to pick up a run the first inning and that was enough for the 1-0 victory over the Duhawks. Lara Mangialardi and Stephanie Popovich each pitched three innings to hold Hope to just one run on the day.
The Duhawks opened up their final day of games against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks got off to a fast start with three runs in the first inning carried that momentum to a 6-1 victory over Loras. Tracy Sullivan knocked in Kelsey Techlin for the Duhawks' lone run in the game. In the final game for Loras during their Florida trip, the Duhawks defeated University of Chicago thanks to a four-run fifth inning that broke a 1-1 tie - and stood to be the difference in their 5-1 victory. Katelyn Jones and Nancy Pater each picked up two RBIs along with Tracy Sullivan going 2-3 with two runs scored. Kellie Klein pitched a complete game to pick up the win, allowing just four hits and one run.
Up next for the Duhawks will be a doubleheader at cross town rival Clarke University March 25 before they play their first home game March 27 in a doubleheader against Carthage College.
