The Loras College men's tennis team season is underway and they are looking to build off their recent 9-0 victory over Marian College February 19. Leading the way for the Duhawks is senior Jared Levy with a 4-4 record, including wins in his last three matches. The team is currently 1-7 and 0-3 in the Iowa Conference.

"So far this season, we haven't been getting the number of wins we were hoping for, but we feel there is a lot of room for improvement and we look forward to making a charge in the second half of the season," said first year head coach Daniel Kurt.

Loras started off their season suffering a couple set backs against Central College and Morningside College in Pella, Iowa. The Duhawks then traveled to the Moline, Illinois to face Saint Ambrose University and Augustana College, but once again faced tough competition and dropped their record to 0-4. On February 18, Loras then faced conference foes Wartburg College and Cornell College in Waverly, Iowa but came up empty to drop their record to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Duhawks then traveled to Clinton, Iowa to compete against Ashford University and Marian College. Loras earned three victories versus Ashford, two singles wins from Levy and Jeff Kasel and also a doubles victory from Levy and Erik Becker. The Duhawks then picked up their first victory of the season with a team sweep in singles and doubles over Marian.

Up next for Loras are a couple conference opponents March 5, at the University of Dubuque where they will take on Dubuque and Buena Vista University.

"We've got Dubuque and Buena Vista this weekend and both are playing well right now," said Coach Kurt. "Buena Vista has improved from last year and Dubuque has a top ranked singles player leading their team, so it will be tough but we need to win both to make the conference tournament."

The Duhawks will play their home matches this spring on April 16 at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the Loras Tennis Courts when they play Wheaton College and Coe in the regular season finales.
