The Loras College Duhawks moved to 7-8 in the Iowa Conference and are one of five teams vying for four places in next week's IIAC Tournament after their 67-57 road win over Cornell.
Jordan Harrelson paced the offense with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting which included a high-wire alley-oop in the first half. Harrelson led a total of five Duhawks in double figures. Tim Kelly scored 12 points off the bench, Connor Mooney scored 11, and Travis Guy and Dan Pawelski each finished with 10.
Loras shot 51% from the field on the night, and when Harrelson scored the final four points of the first half the Duhawks never looked back, leading the entire final 20 minutes by as many as 11 points.
The Duhawks dominated in the paint, outscoring Cornell 38-16 and limited the Rams to just five points off the bench (scoring 19 of their own with the non-starters). They were also +9 in points off turnovers.
The seeding and schedule for next week's IIAC Tournament are far from set, with five teams vying for the four #3-#6 slots. Dubuque and Central are 8-7, with the Duhawks, Simpson, and Buena Vista all 7-8. Luther has won the regular season title and will be the #1 seed, with Coe locked into the #2 spot. Luther has the final Saturday's "bye", meaning that each of the four games on Saturday have implications on the final seeding. A series of tiebreakers will come into play regardless of which teams qualify. A win combined with a loss by either of the other two 7-9 teams and the Duhawks are in, with tiebreakers in play in every one of the 16 possible scenarios.
Saturday's game tips off at 4:00 PM in the AWC against the Knights (10-13, 5-10), who have been mathematically eliminated. Saturday's festivities include Senior Day, recognizing the alumni in attendance for the annual Alumni Game, and Take A Kid To The Game - where the Duhawks will be hosting 4th and 5th graders.
