Dubuque wrestles victory away from Duhawks late

The Loras College Duhawks won four matches on Wednesday night in their Iowa Conference loss to the Dubuque Spartans, 24-18.

Each of the four wins came in the first six matches of the night, with Pat Pfantz (125#), Matt Holmes (133#), and Joe Wood (149#) earning a total of 15 points. Holmes and Wood each earned pins, while Pfantz won a high scoring 12-9 decision over Andre Taylor. Loras' fourth win came from Erik Hanson at 157 pounds. Hanson controlled his match and went on to win 9-2 and Loras' lead was at its highest - 18-7.

#25 Dubuque's counterpunch came down the stretch, winning each of the four final matches from 165 pounds-197 pounds, where the dual ended. The heavyweight match started the dual, Tyler Hoerner won a sudden-victory decision over Jeremy Klein, 2-1.

Loras moved to 8-12 overall and 2-6 in the Iowa Conference. They will host the Duhawk Open this Saturday and wrestle their final dual of the season on February 11 in Platteville, Wisconsin against the Pioneers. They will then turn their attention to qualifying for the NCAA Championships on February 25 at Simpson College.
