Kent layup gives Duhawks home win

Brit Kent's layup in traffic with just seconds remaining was the difference in Loras' sloppy 46-45 win over the Luther College Norse on Saturday afternoon.

The Duhawks moved to 6-5 in the Iowa Conference with the home win over the Norse, and Kent's layup capped the four point comeback over the game's final two minutes. After Luther's Sam Jewell made the Norse' final layup with just over two minutes to play, the Duhawks forced five turnovers and held the visitors without a field goal attempt until Loras had claimed the lead.

Kelly Rogowski's three pointer with 1:19 to go put the Duhawks down one point, 45-44. After a late timeout, Brit Kent's number was called to put Loras ahead. Kent made her move at the high post and fought through traffic for a layup that went down with just over three seconds left.

Luther's last attempt to reclaim the lead was snuffed out and the Duhawks fought through 35% shooting, 17 first half points, and 43% free throw shooting to hand the Norse their 10th loss in Iowa Conference play this season.

Loras moved back to .500 overall (10-10) and above .500 in the Iowa Conference (6-5) with the win. It also continued the Duhawks' stretch of alternating wins and losses to nine contests.

The Duhawks will take the long trip to Storm Lake on Wednesday night to play a critical game on the schedule against the Buena Vista Beavers (10-9, 6-4).
