Loras men defeat Beloit on Senior Day

The Loras College men's swimming team earned a dual victory against Beloit on Saturday, 108-71.

The Duhawks won seven individual events and one relay to defeat the Buccaneers on Senior Day. Leading the way for Loras was Stephen Ball who won the 100 and 200 Yard Freestyle and also swam the anchor leg on the winning 200 Medley Relay. For his efforts, Ball was named the Iowa Conference's Athlete of the Week in Swimming & Diving. Bob Kupfert, Joe Gracyalny, and Tommy Castle all scored points for the Duhawks while winning individual events. Alec Schmidt and Mike Gerken also earned the top times in their individual events but were not scored.

The team of Castle, Gerken, Gracyalny, and Ball won the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The Duhawks also recorded the top time in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with the team of Gracyalny, Castle, Schmidt, and Andy Pape but was not scored.

This was the last time for the four senior Duhawk swimmers of Ball, Castle, Gerken, and Gracyalny to swim in San Jose Pool. Loras will head to Sioux City this weekend where the Duhawks swim against Morningside College, Iowa Central Community College, and College of Saint Mary. The Duhawks will then head to Cedar Rapids for the Liberal Arts & IIAC Championships on February 17.
