Swimmers finish in middle of the pack at Chicago

The Loras College men's and women's swimming teams each posted over 240 team points on their way to fourth and sixth place finishes at Saturday's University of Chicago Invitational.

The women's team finished in fourth place after solid performances by Kenzie Murray, Alex Proctor, Marguerite DelVecchio, and Gabrielle Gaulke - among others.

Murray, DelVecchio, and Proctor swam together on the sixth place 200 Yard Medley Relay team with Jillyn Gerken. Murray, Proctor, and Gaulke were joined by Evayn Roper on the eighth place 800 Yard Free Relay team. Murray, Proctor, and Roper then joined Katie Callaghan on the 400 Yard Free Relay team which finished seventh.

Individually, Loras earned top finishes from Kenzie Murray in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (4th), 400 IM (8th), and 100 Yard Breaststroke (5th). Alex Proctor was second in the 100 Yard Freestyle, and seventh in the 100 Yard Butterfly and the 100 Yard Backstroke. Gaulke was also eighth in the 200 Yard Butterfly.

On the men's side, Andy Pape, Ricky Lukacs, and Stephen Ball scored significant points for the Duhawks.

Pape, Lukacs, Ball, and Michael O'Toole were fifth in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. The same trio, minus O'Toole but with Alec Schmidt, was sixth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Pape, Ryan Momberger, Schmidt, and Joe Gracyalny finished in ninth.

Individually, Pape was seventh in the 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Backstroke to go with eighth place in the 100 Freestyle, Ball was tenth in the 200 Yard Freestyle, and Lukacs was third in the 1650 Freestyle.

Loras will swim in their final home event of the season on Saturday. Beloit will be at San Jose Pool to take on the Duhawks at 1:00 PM for Senior Day.
