Low-scoring battle goes to Knights

The Loras College women's basketball team scrapped their way to a 21-20 halftime lead but fell to the #22 Wartburg Knights on Wednesday night in Waverly, 51-45.

Brittany Kent went 6-of-12 from the field and scored 14 points to lead the Duhawks offense. She added four offensive rebounds and three defensive to reach seven total rebounds. Kelly Rogowski reached double figures for the second straight game, scoring a career high 13 points, including 2-of-4 three pointers and 5-of-6 free throws. Melissa Herrmann was credited with six blocked shots and eight rebounds but battled foul trouble and only attempted one shot in 22 minutes.

For the Knights, Stephanie Reiter and Terri Dirks each scored 10 points to lead Wartburg. Nine of ten Knights registered a steal in the win.

A three pointer by Rogowski with two and a half minutes left had the Duhawks within two points at 47-45, but Loras missed their final three field goals as Samantha Harrington made a shot and Abi Weidemann converted two free throws.

The Duhawks fell to 7-8, 3-3 in the IIAC with the loss. Wartburg moved to 14-0, 5-0 with the win.

Loras hosts Dubuque (4-10, 1-4) at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
