Duhawks hang 84 on Cornell

The Loras College men's basketball were quickly back into the win column on Saturday evening after a convincing 84-69 win over the Cornell Rams in the AWC.

The Duhawks scored 50 first half points and shot 53% from the field in the win. They were led by Mike Gleason's 18-point effort and Jordan Harrelson's 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting in 19 minutes (including a one-handed hammer dunk on a fast break in the first half). Connor Mooney had eight points and seven assists and Dan Pawelski scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Taylor Baxter made his Loras debut on Saturday, scoring four points on 2-of-7 shooting. He added four rebounds, two assists, and a block to his line in 14 minutes of action.

Loras was +10 on points in the paint and scored 21 second chance points to keep the Rams at a safe distance for much of the game.

The Duhawks head to Waverly, Iowa on Wednesday night to take on the Wartburg Knights. Wartburg is 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the IIAC so far. The Duhawks moved to 5-9 and 2-3 in league play with the win over Cornell. Tipoff in Waverly is 8:00 PM and can be heard locally on Newstalk 1490-WDBQ.
