Beavers control AWC tilt

The Loras College women's basketball team had their four-game home winning streak snapped by the Buena Vista Beavers on Wednesday night, 78-62.

Junior Alex Hudson scored a season high 18 points on Wednesday night to lead the Duhawks. Hudson was 7-of-15 from the floor in 28 minutes of action, and made three long distance shots and added four steals to her stat line.

A flat first half on the offensive end doomed the Duhawks, who made just 5-of-33 shots. Buena Vista went on a 14-0 run that came to an end with 13 minutes left in the first half and never looked back. Buena Vista closed the first half on another big run, this time 11-0 to take a significant 22-point lead into halftime.

Loras' shooting improved significantly in the second half, outscoring BVU 47-41 on 54% shooting, but their fate had more or less been sealed when they posted just 15 points in the first half.

Contributing to the uphill battle was the 22-point night Jess Christensen put together, going 9-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-4 from long distance. A total of four Beavers reached double figures.

The Duhawks will look to return to the win column and get back to .500 on Saturday afternoon when they host Cornell College (6-5, 1-3). Tipoff is 2:00 PM in the AWC versus the Rams. Loras fell to 6-7, 2-2 in the IIAC with the loss, and match Buena Vista's overall and league records in the process.
