Pawelski paces Duhawks in first IIAC win

The Loras College Duhawks won their second game of 2010-11 and first in Iowa Conference play on Wednesday when they defeated Simpson 77-69 in Indianola, Iowa.

Loras made 13 field goals in the first half and 14 in the second half on their way 48% shooting. Dan Pawelski scored 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added 10 rebounds for his first double-double of 2010-11. Jordan Harrelson joined Pawelski in the double-double category, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Connor Mooney added 16 points and three assists-including 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Travis Guy jumped in the action on the defensive end with five blocks, adding five assists, and six rebounds.

The Storm were just 6-of-23 from three point distance and attempted only 15 free throws, made the same 27 field goals as the Duhawks, but missed an additional 11 shots, helped Loras to a 40-32 rebounding advantage.

The Duhawks will play four non-conference games to close December and the 2010 calendar before returning to IIAC competition on the fifth of January when they host Buena Vista. Home games to wrap up 2010 are the 19th and 20th versus University of Chicago and North Park. The Duhawks will play in nearby Clinton, Iowa on the 29th against Ashford University.
