The Loras College wrestling team is prepping for their final two competitions on the 2010 calendar this week while completing their finals. Friday night the Duhawks will host the second of their three home dual meets on Friday night in the Graber Sports Center when they grapple with Augustana College. The Jim Fox Open will take place on December 18 at the University of Dubuque. Loras will then be on their holiday break (at least in terms of formal competitions) until January 8, 2011.

Leading up to this weekend, the Duhawks have won three of their last four duals, including wins over Waldorf College, UW-Eau Claire, and the College of Mt. St. Joseph by a combined 105-30. Their loss came to #3 UW-LaCrosse (43-3) as part of the 2x4 Duals on December 4, where the Duhawks beat Waldorf and Eau Claire.

Senior Erik Hanson has won three decisions and pinned one opponent in his four-match winning streak. Among the other Duhawks posting wins in the last two weeks are junior Pat Pfantz (2-1, with only a one point loss vs. UWL), sophomore Matt Holmes (3-1, with a slim two point loss vs. UWL) and senior Tiegen Podliska (3-1).

"We're showing signs of improvement," head coach Randy Steward said this week.

"We've beaten some teams I think we should beat, which is good. This is going to be a year-long process to truly improve as a group and get where we want to be - and I'd sure like to go into our break with a win on Friday and stay on this little roll!"

Loras and Augustana will begin at 7:00 PM on Friday and can be viewed live online at the link below.
