The Loras College men's basketball team fell to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the IIAC on Wednesday night after a 74-64 loss to Central College.

Three Duhawks scored in double figures, led by Dan Pawelski's 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, one three-pointer, and 4-of-5 free throw shooting. Tim Kelly and Travis Guy chipped in with 11 each. Pawelski and Jordan Harrelson tied for the team high with seven rebounds.

The Duhawks shot a healthy 51% from the field, but couldn't keep pace with Central's ten three-pointers and Demarco Turner, who scored a game high 25 points off the bench. Turner went 4-of-6 from long distance. Loras was 3-of-17 from behind the arc.

The Duhawks charged back in the middle of the second half to cut the lead to 62-57 after an old-fashioned three point play by Dan Pawelski, a long distance shot by Tyson Handsaker, and a layup and free throw by Travis Guy at the 4:32 mark. The visitors kept Loras at a safe distance from the free throw line and close range shots by Turner and James Chapline down the stretch.

Loras heads to Luther on Saturday for game number two of the 2010 Iowa Conference season. The Norse were winners in a non-conference game over UW-Platteville on Wednesday night by two points, the same margin as the Duhawks' win over the Pioneers on Sunday. Tipoff between the Duhawks and the Norse is 4:00 PM.
